Safety, Weather & What to Wear
What happens if there’s not enough snow?
If there is insufficient snow, the ride may be conducted with a cart instead of a sled — so you still get the husky experience.
What should I wear under the provided gear?
Warm layers — thermal underwear, wool socks, a warm hat, scarf — because Lapland winter can be cold. While the tour provides outer winter gear and boots, layering ensures comfort. This is standard for husky safaris in Finland.
Is ice fishing safe?
Yes. The guide checks ice thickness and selects safe, approved locations. Ice fishing is a long-standing tradition in Finland and is conducted with safety as a priority.
What happens if the weather is very cold?
The experience still operates in cold weather, but:
fishing time may be shortened
more time is spent around the campfire
Extreme conditions may lead to rescheduling for safety reasons.
Booking, Pick-up & Logistics
Is pick-up from hotel/accommodation included?
Yes — pick-up and drop-off within ~10 km of Rovaniemi city centre are included in the price.
How far in advance should we book?
It’s recommended to book as soon as you know your travel dates — especially in high season. The operator reserves the right to cancel or reschedule if minimum group size isn’t met.
What is the cancellation policy?
If the booking is cancelled 1 day or less before the event, the cancellation fee is 100%.
What You Get & What to Expect
Is food included?
Yes. Hot drinks and light snacks are served by the campfire.
In some cases, freshly caught fish may be cooked on the fire (conditions permitting).
What kind of fish can we catch?
Depending on the lake and season, you may catch:
perch
whitefish
pike
Fishing success varies — but the experience is about learning, nature, and atmosphere, not guaranteed catch.
Can I take photos?
Yes. You’re welcome to take photos during the tour — the frozen lake landscapes and snowmobile ride are especially photogenic.
Is this tour good for families / couples / first-time travellers?
Absolutely. The 5 km route is manageable for beginners; provided winter gear, guide support, and included pick-up all lower the barrier. Many first-time visitors to Lapland enjoy a short, guided husky sled ride as an accessible Arctic experience.
Adjustments & Special Requests
Can we request a private tour or tailor the experience?
Yes — in addition to the standard group-based tour, there is a private version available for those who prefer exclusivity.
What if I have special language needs?
The standard is English; other languages (Spanish, Portuguese, Finnish) may be available on request, but availability is limited — inform this when booking.
What if weather or trail conditions change last minute?
If snow conditions are insufficient, we may switch to a cart ride instead of a sled. We always aim to provide a genuine husky adventure regardless of snow.
