No one can promise the Northern Lights. Anyone who does is selling a fantasy.
What we can do is give you the best realistic chance to see them.
That’s what our Guaranteed View approach is about.
What We Actually Do Differently
- We follow real-time satellite data cloud maps, and solar wind measurements every evening
- Routes are decided based on the latest conditions, not on a fixed location
- If the sky is clearer 100 km away, we go there – even if it means long night drives
- Shutter speed: – 2–10 seconds (shorter for fast-moving, bright aurora)
- On PRO nights we may cross into Sweden to find breaks in the cloud cover
- We keep groups small so turning and rerouting is actually possible
What “Guarantee” Actually Means
- We don’t guarantee nature - nobody can.
- We guarantee results, backed by a money-back guarantee.
- In practice, this means one of three things, depending on weather and tour type:
- We rebook you to another night when conditions allow.
- We give a partial refund or discount if conditions are clearly impossible.
- And if the tour fails to deliver even with our full effort? You get your money back.
- The idea is simple: you’re not paying for “let’s stand on the side of the road and hope”. You’re paying for real aurora hunting, done by local professionals who live here, monitor the sky obsessively, and know where to go when others give up.

Start
The journey starts in Rovaniemi, the perfect place to begin the hunt for the Northern Lights. Your Aurora Hunter and guide will pick you up from your hotel, ensuring a smooth start to the adventure.
In addition, our team carefully plans the route based on the previous night’s weather, upcoming forecasts, solar activity, and cloud coverage in Lapland. Before heading out, your guide will also go through the evening’s plan with you so that you know exactly what to expect.
Furthermore, to keep you warm on freezing Lapland nights, we provide winter overalls and boots if needed. As a result, you can focus on enjoying the adventure rather than worrying about the cold—after all, good preparation is already 90% of success.

Northern Lights Hunting
We start our journey by searching for a clear, cloudless sky in the Lapland region, with our chosen spots varying each night. Every evening, we carefully select the best possible location to witness the Aurora Borealis. The ideal spots are usually open areas – lakes, mountains, and wide-open spaces — free from visual obstructions and with minimal light pollution.
With over 1,000 carefully selected Aurora spotting locations across Finland, Sweden, and Norway, we use our expertise to find the best possible place for each night’s unique conditions.
Northern Lights spotting
Every night is different. The Auroras can be visible for just 5 minutes or the entire night. Some nights, she can be shy and elusive, while on others, she dances above your head, painting the sky with all the colors of the Aurora.
Keep in mind that this adventure is impossible to predict — even the most experienced Aurora hunters can’t perfectly foresee the Northern Lights’ dance.
This adventure is a wild ride with no set script, but one thing’s for sure — we’ll be in the right place at the right time to catch those magical Aurora moments!

Northern Lights photography
A professional photographer joins every tour to ensure we capture stunning, high-quality shots—just like those perfect “Instagram-worthy” pictures. Because Aurora photography can be challenging, we use top-quality cameras designed specifically to capture the Northern Lights at their best. In addition, our photographer assists you with your phone or personal camera and teaches you valuable techniques for filming in the dark.
Moreover, you’ll receive an unlimited number of photos—essentially as many as we can take—along with videos and timelapses when conditions allow. You can relive the magic again and again long after your Lapland adventure ends!
Goal
Our main goal is to capture breathtaking photos of the Northern Lights with our guests in the same picture. A professional photographer is included in every tour to ensure you get stunning, high-quality shots.
Of course, we’re also here to experience the most spectacular Auroras of the night!

History
History of northern lights
The history of the Northern Lights in Finland is truly fascinating, as they have been a part of culture and stories for centuries. Many old folk beliefs associated the auroras with divine or magical phenomena. They were believed to be spiritual beings or the souls of the deceased dancing in the sky.
Today, the Northern Lights are mainly considered a scientifically interesting phenomenon, but their historical and cultural significance still lives on in Finnish folklore.

FAQS
Frequently asked questions
Is pick-up and drop-off included in the tour price?
Yes, pick-up and drop-off from the city center (up to 10 km) are included in the ticket price. If you need pick-up from farther away, this can usually be arranged.
What should we wear and bring with us?
We recommend dressing warmly in layers, as temperatures can drop significantly. Warm winter clothing, gloves, and hats are essential.
Do you offer other tours or activities?
In addition to Aurora Tours, we offer a range of other winter activities and experiences. For more information, please visit the Other Tours page.
Do we need to bring a passport on the tour?
Our tours often cross the border into Sweden or Norway, so it is advisable to bring a form of identification with you.
When is the best time to see northern lights in Lapland?
You can usually enjoy the Northern Lights in Lapland at their best during September, October, February, March, and early April. During these months, long nights and stable weather patterns make the conditions ideal for spotting the aurora. In addition, the equinox periods often bring stronger activity, which increases your likelihood of success. Finally, when skies stay clear and geomagnetic activity is strong, you have an excellent chance to witness a truly unforgettable Northern Lights display.
can we?
Can we join the tour if we have small children?
Yes, children are welcome on our tours. We ensure that the experience is enjoyable and safe for all age groups. Please inform us in advance if you have small children so we can accommodate your needs.
Can we bring our own drinks or food on the tour?
Generally, we do not include food or drinks in our tours. Instead, we recommend that you bring your own snacks and beverages, since No Limits Tours can sometimes last for several hours. In addition, carrying a warm drink such as hot cocoa can make the experience more pleasant and help you stay warm during the night. As a result, you can fully focus on the adventure. Our priority is 110% on finding the Northern Lights, and therefore we leave meals and drinks up to you.
WHAT IF?
What happens if we don’t spot any northern lights?
With the Guaranteed Ticket, you’re fully covered: if no northern lights are spotted during your tour, you can choose either a 100% refund or join the next day’s tour free of charge using the same ticket.
If northern lights are spotted – even faintly – no refund applies. Your guide will take a photo as documentation of the sighting.
What if the weather looks unfavorable or the tour gets cancelled?
If we determine that seeing the northern lights would be completely impossible – for example due to a heavy snowstorm covering all of Lapland – we will not operate the tour. Instead, we’ll cancel it proactively and offer you either a full refund or a free transfer to the next available departure.
We value your time (and ours) and wouldn’t operate a tour that has no realistic chance of success. It wouldn’t make sense for anyone – not for you, and not for us.
How and wHY?
Why is it recommended to book the tour for your first day of arrival?

If weather conditions are unfavorable and we assess that the tour is not feasible, we can reschedule or offer alternative dates. This way, you ensure the best possible chance to experience the auroras.
How do you monitor the conditions?
Our dedicated Aurora Monitor Team, in collaboration with the Finnish Meteorological Institute, continuously tracks cloud cover, weather forecasts, and solar activity throughout the evening.
When you book with us, you can trust that we’ll do everything possible to maximize your chances of experiencing the best possible northern lights.
How do you choose the best location for viewing the auroras?
We use local expertise, meteorological data, and real-time aurora forecasts to select the best location. The key is to be in the right place at the right time.
